Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or immaterial reality; an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his or her being, or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation,  are intended to develop an individual's inner life.

You can be a spiritual person without following spiritualism just as a humanist can be a spiritual person without belonging to a church or even believing in a Deity.
The difference between a humanist and someone who follows and practices spiritualism (without being a Spiritualist) is the fundamental belief in God. (That which is beyond this life).

You can be a spiritual person without following any religion at all.

In fact, some people are so disillusioned with the arguments and politicking within religions they feel much happier on the outside...

And there is proved corruption in some religions which almost pales into insignificance the usual backbiting and shuffling for position of most (not all) committees, etc.

Spiritualism... is not THE ONLY path to spirituality but, for some people, may be one of many.

Any Medium, Organisation, Religion, Church Leader, Priest, Paster, Elder, Immam, Guru, etc that tells you that their religion is the only way to learn the truth or, that their religion only way to God or the only way to be 'saved' knows in their heart that this is not true.

I call myself a Spiritualist because I believe in a Unified Spiritualist Church and that one day Spiritualists and all other Religions will be joined together as one. (In this life or the next).

My Thoughts:  (For what they're worth).

Life is progressive...every second is growth and learning for
Mind, Body & Soul.    Nothing stands still.

People get stranded in the material world of the, 'here and now' yet life is a process of change and adaptation.

Most of the stress of modern life being generated by this obsession with the accumulation of power, (over others), goods and chattels until all too soon it's too late to turn away and we are trapped.
With this concentration on the material and the glorification of the body beatutiful without a thought to where we came from and where we are going we have become indifferent to the very real needs of the Spiritual Soul.

The young are too naive to worry. The middle aged are too busy and the old are too frightened to think of whats to follow the physical life.

In recent years activity from Spirit has become pronounced because more people are opening themselves up to Spirit influences.
Spirit have always been there of course, but it is the practices of 'opening up', that has increased the amount of communication with the physical world.

Unfortunately, because there is very little training about the Spiritual side people think less of God and more of the, 'guides' and 'communicators', they tend to forget the basic rules and plough on, (having made idols of,  'guide', 'angels', 'cards' and even Mediums), some giving 'messages' to people regardless to where that information comes from.

Those that know better would never open themselves up to these influences yet, those who sit with Mediums, Psychics, Readers etc (even phone readings) open themselves up without a thought.

In the main I have found Spirit to be very friendly, helpful and have had not problems in over 30 years of working with them but, I would never opening up to them without the protection of:
1. My Guide and 2. knowing how to get out of any difficulty that may arise.

Besides the practical applications of communication with Spirit there is the more personalised aspects that each one of us have.

The only way to find peace of mind in this life is to be at peace with the people around you and those you meet. 
The only way to find inner peace, (regardless to your past), is to make peace with yourself and to take up the natural call of your spiritual self.

This does not mean doing great works of selflessness or becoming a martyr. It simply means finding out how to live in peace with yourself and others whilst learning all there is to learn in this life.
